Doctor your eyes every year!
For a lifetime of good vision, doctor your eyes every year; it's good for your health! A thorough eye exam performed by Doctors TOM KLIMEK, BOB CARTER, or FRED NISTA involves more than a prescription for vision correction.

Your eyes may be the window to your soul, but to your optometrist, they are the window to your overall health. Many illnesses can be detected before you are aware of them. For instance, the appearance of irregular blood vessels on the retina could indicate HYPERTENSION. Small areas of retinal bleeding could be an early warning sign of DIABETES, which can also cause blurred vision. Blood vessels in the eyes can point to a risk of STROKE or warn of HIGH CHOLESTEROL. Double vision, loss of peripheral vision, and involuntary eye movements could indicate MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS. For good health for a lifetime, our doctors also recommend general examinations by your medical doctor on a regular basis.

Additionally, YOU CAN DO YOUR PART to care for your eyes. Check your vision in both eyes every day. Do your eyes feel good, look well, and see clearly? Do they work well "as a team"? When they don't, its hard for your brain to do the job to fuse the two images into one. Then your eyes have to work hard to see clearly which may cause eyestrain and headaches. Our doctors perform a series of BINOCULAR tests to determine if your eye muscles work as a team.

The eye is also susceptible to its own diseases. For instance, high levels of pressure in the eye indicates GLAUCOMA, one of the leading causes of blindness in the U.S. Those at high risk include people of African-American descent, those over 40, and those with a family history of glaucoma. Besides testing your pressures (no, we don't use the "puff air" test! That's OLD technology!), your doctor may recommend a Visual Field be performed to test your peripheral (side) vision. This test is similar to a video game; its fast, easy and painless.
Many vision diseases have symptoms ranging from BLURRY VISION to blindness. Doctors KLIMEK, CARTER, and NISTA have earned the highest level of certification given to optometrists in the state of Michigan, DPA & TPA certification. That means our doctors can diagnose and treat many diseases of the eye. They are also licensed to remove particles from the eye and give pre-operative and post-operative care to their patients having cataract or laser vision correction.
There's no substitute for the highest quality eyecare provided by our experienced optometrists! They will be happy to prescribe eyewear that helps you see your best. All of our doctors are accepting new patients. Call our office to schedule an appointment today!
